I recently got to talk with my friend Eyerone, who is a Hip Hop artist from Virginia. He has a new EP now called In Vitro. I asked him some questions about the EP, how he got started in music and what he has planned for the future. Take a look at my interview with him down below.

How did you first get started in doing music?
Well...since I was young, like 5 or 6ish, I knew I wanted to be a producer. I just didn't have the natural talent to play any music. I didn't have the patience or discipline to learn either! So fast forward to about 10 years later and it was like rap music finally called me to it. I always loved it, I just never tried creating something that I'd put my name on. But ever since I started in 2000, I haven't looked back.

What made you choose the name Eyerone? Why that spelling?
The name kind of chose me. I was racking my brain trying to think of something that would stick and fit me and what I was trying to do.  Then it came to me one night while I was dreaming. The spelling is just....hip-hop. LOL. Plus, it allows room to do all the cool shit with the monikers and all that. Even if it IS at the expense of other people not knowing how the fuck to pronounce my name. But it works both ways....usually if someone butchers my name, they dont forget it going forward. I created this monster...so i expect some people to fuck it up lol.

What made you choose Hip Hop as your genre?
Its really not "my" genre so to say. Its just one of the main platform that i plan to use to get my thoughts out. I love its rawness!

Given the opportunity what artists would you really like to work with? Producers?
I'd love to work with Jay-z, Eminem, Nas, Lupe Fiasco, Joe Budden, Drake and Royce Da 5'9. I think my sound wouldnt be too far off if I were to team up with any of those guys. Producer-wise? Incidentally enough, most come from my state: Timbaland, the Neptunes, Nottz, Bink!. Then theres Just Blaze...

What artists inspire you in making your music?
Sade. That band really defines "longevity" and "timelessness"..and thats what I want.

Do you have a certain song or verse that you’ve done that’s your favorite?
Not yet. I'm trying to get to that point where I can say "THATS THE VERSE!!". Right now, my favorite song of mine is "The Drive".

Is there anyone you would like to collaborate with from a different genre?
Sade & Coldplay come to mind...

Would you ever consider trying out a different genre?
Absolutely. Like I said, hip hop is just one outlet..

At this point in your career, how big would you say your fan base is?
Thats a GREAT question. I dunno if it can be "quantified" just yet. I've built some pretty good relationships since I first got started and as of right now, I'm just appreciative that even ONE person is listening.

You just released a new EP, In Vitro, what was the concept behind the EP?
The concept was that I needed to release a project prior to releasing my actual album, Rhyme & Reason. I'm a firm believer in timing being everything...so i knew that if I put out the album first, it may have been too MUCH. The album is really heavy, content & concept-wise and I didn't want to throw people off by giving them too much too fast. In Vitro is like a small sample of what Rhyme & Reason is.

How did you come up with the title In Vitro?
By its very definition. Its funny how people these days immediately think of having babies & twins and all that shit when they hear the word "in Vitro"..and I get that. But thats not really what I had in mind when I named it "In Vitro"
Plus, it kinda reminds me of In Utero by Nirvana...and I loved that concept.

What can we expect from you in the near future?
The next big thing for me is the album, Rhyme & Reason. Its going to be between 11-14 original songs & executive produced by me, Majik of Coalition Business Music and Dash of Rock Bottom LLC. I've been working on this album since i was a Junior in high school back in 03..so it should be some SHIT!
